Pitztal Glacier Marathon and PAGT
The Pitztal is one of the most beautiful running destinations in all of Tyrol in summer. Two events make the season particularly special for runners: the Glacier Marathon in July and the Pitztal Alpine Glacier Trail in August. Both lead through a mountain landscape most people only know from photographs. You are very welcome to let that sink in before the starting gun even goes off.
Pitztal Glacier Marathon
The Pitztal Glacier Marathon takes place every year in July and is considered one of the most spectacular mountain races in Austria. The course runs through the entire Pitztal valley, past alpine meadows, along mountain trails and up into high-altitude terrain. Those who have run the Pitztal Glacier Marathon once tend to understand why the valley brings so many runners back year after year. Registration and current course details directly with the organiser.
Pitztal Alpine Glacier Trail
The Pitztal Alpine Glacier Trail, known as the PAGT, takes place in August and is a trail run of a different kind. The course runs through high-alpine terrain with the Pitztal Glacier as a constant backdrop. Different distances make the PAGT appealing to experienced trail runners and newcomers alike. The Pitztal as a setting is hard to match.
Mandarfen as Your Base
Boutique Hotel Mandarfner Hof is located in Mandarfen, right in the heart of the Pitztal and ideally positioned for participants in both events. Short distances to the start locations, no long drives on race day. Arriving a few days before the event gives runners the chance to familiarise themselves with the course, run at altitude and warm the legs up properly in the mountains. After the race, an evening menu from Dominik Kammerhofer and the alpine sauna are waiting for the muscles that earned it.
You are very welcome to treat yourself to exactly that.
Trail Running in the Pitztal Year-Round
For those who cannot make it for the event dates, the Pitztal offers outstanding trail running throughout the year. Around 120 marked kilometres in the valley, significant elevation changes and trails ranging from easy to demanding. The Pitztal has long been considered an insider tip among trail runners in Austria, though the secret is well and truly out.
