Holiday with Your Dog in the Pitztal: Welcome to Mandarfner Hof
Mandarfner Hof is not a dog hotel. But it is a house where dogs are genuinely welcome. That difference shows in practice: no dog blankets or bowl service, but an honest yes to four-legged guests without hidden conditions. For anyone looking to holiday with their dog in Tyrol, the Pitztal at 1,700 metres is the right place to start.
Oskar, the house Border Collie, knows the Pitztal inside out. You are very welcome to take inspiration from him.
What Is Included, What Costs Extra
Dogs are welcome in all room types. The supplement is €15 per dog per day in summer and €20 per dog per day in winter. Please bring your own equipment: dog blankets, bowls and bedding are not provided. Dogs are not permitted in the restaurant or the wellness area, and we ask guests to respect this.
Hiking with Your Dog from Mandarfen
The Pitztal is an excellent destination for hiking with dogs. Numerous trails start directly from the hotel, ranging from easy valley walks to demanding mountain routes above 2,000 metres. The Rifflsee at 2,232 metres is reachable via the Rifflseebahn cable car and offers one of the most beautiful circular walks in the valley. The Hochzeiger and the glacier regions add plenty more for those who want to explore further.
Please bring a lead. Leashing is required near livestock on alpine pastures and recommended on busy hiking trails. If you encounter cattle with your dog, stay calm, keep your distance and leash immediately.
Dogs on Buses and Mountain Railways
Dogs can travel on all buses and trains within the Tyrol transport network, with lead and muzzle required. The same applies to mountain railways. Packing a muzzle before you leave avoids any complications at the cable car station.
Rules for Dogs in Tyrol
Lead or muzzle required in built-up areas. Lead and muzzle always required on public transport. Poo bags are compulsory, on trails and in the village. Lead recommended in nature reserves, wildlife areas and on busy hiking routes. Lead required near grazing livestock. Individual municipalities may have additional rules; a quick check of the St. Leonhard im Pitztal local website before arrival is worth the effort.
Holiday with Your Dog in the Alps: Why the Pitztal Works
The Pitztal is one of the most unspoilt valleys in Tyrol. Little mass tourism, a great deal of nature, wide trails and mountain streams at every turn. For dogs that means space, fresh air and mountain lakes to cool off in. A holiday with your dog in the Alps here does not feel like a compromise. You are very welcome to simply arrive and head out.
